Warm-Up Caption

  • Thursday afternoon, sophomore Ian Loyd chases his pet goat, Randolph, after he got loose out of his gate at the Akins HS barn. Ian wasn't able to catch his goat that day but hours later he found it eating cabbage in the schools cafeteria.
    • This photo doesn't follow very many rules. The only rule I see is leading lines, the rails lead up to Ian. And the photo has Depth. There are many mergers, for example: Ian leg looks like it is coming out of the goats butt.

          Japanese Earthquake

This photo makes me feel very shocked and dumbfounded. This is one of the last things I expected to happen. The photographer most likely took the picture with a high shutter speed because the photo is very clear.

This photo makes me feel worry and uneasy. It makes me think about how Japan is going to recover from this tragic event.

This photo makes me feel very sad. It sad that someone had to die this way. The photographer follow the simplicity rule.

          • I would do it, I think it would be fun.
3.) Think of an unusual photo shoot similar to this one that you think would be fun to go and shoot.
          • Have a cup full of stories, and have two strangers pick one of it and they have to act out the story in a pose. (ex: One slip would say "You just found out your boyfriend cheated on you" and the strangers would have to act it out.
4.) Finally, tell me what you thought of the photography, did the photographer think about the rules of photography that you know about? What types of photos did he take?
          • All of the photo are in good focus but he did not follow any of the rules, except a couple that had simple background.

          Cool Advertising Idea

The advertisting idea of painting the hands into a Eiffel Tower is my favorite because it looks just like the tower. It is really an amazing artwork. It wouldn't make me buy the phone though, but i still like it:)

          Happy! Akins! Building!

          Happy

This is a very great photo of Happy because by the subject jumping and having a big smile on her face makes it a very happy, and bubbly photo

          Akins

I believe this is an excellent photo of Akins. This is a very good photo because Akins wouldn't be Akins with out its students. The students are the best example of Akins.

          Building

This photo of building is very excellent. It demonstrates building perfectly.

          Notes

          Cover Types
          • Early Magazines Cover
Early magazines covers had no photos just drawings. They tend to use big areas of color. They also tend to have no price and date line, or bar codes. They had small headlines. usually church related
          • The Poster Cover
A poster cover has one picture and words the relate to the photo. It only has one headline and it has small words. Disadvantages: If the photography isn't good then no one will buy it.
          • Pictures Married to Type
Pictures married to type magazines have less words, and most of the words are located on one side of the magazines. The texts relates to the photo. The texts are located inside the photo. You can really see the photo. Disadvantages:  The magazines looks boring and not as many entry points
          • In the Forest of Words
Magazines that are mainly covered with words are considered In the forest of words. They have different fonts, words, colors, and font sizes. It is a very cluttered magazines cover. A disavantage of using this type of magazine is that it is also Distracting. And you can't really see the cover photo.

Photographer Irving Penn captures Nicole Kidmans back profile dressed in a Christian Lacroix oyster satin backless dress for this cover of the May 2004 issue of Vogue. This was the first cover shoot for Vogue by Penn since 1989. The issue contains more photographs of Kidman dressed as a Grecian goddess, an Italian diva and as legendary actress Sarah Bernhardt.

          Photo Critique

This is my favorite magazine cover because it is a very beautiful photo. When I first seen this cover I knew it was my favorite. The colors of the dress, the background and the labels blend in very well together. The lighting of the photo is great, they are very balanced; the left side of the photo has a dark back ground but that side of her dress has the light shining on it. And the right side has a light background but, her dress looks darker. The way the photographer has the subject standing makes the photo even better.

            • Use a tripod. Seriously. While it’s possible to get good photos while you’re hanging on to your camera at arms-length, it’s a lot easier if you’ve got the freedom to move around a bit.
            • Have fun with it. Be sexy. Be yourself. Be awesome. Be different. Be creative. Whatever you do, have fun with it. That’s part of the point, after all.
