Clarence John Laughlin

Laughlin was born in 1905 near Lake Charles, Louisiana. But spent most of his life in New Orleans, Louisiana were he died in 1985. Laughlin was a self taught photograph and started his career as a freelance photographer. Laughlin worked for various agencies such as Vouge Magazine and The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Laughlin is known as one the best surrealist photographers of his time. He took many of his photos in New Orleans at decaying landscapes, and made elaborate stages, models, costumes, and props to create haunting abstact scenes. His best known book is "Ghost Along The Mississippi" and he also wrote a book called "Haunter of Ruins."
